With so many movies out there (thousands upon thousands), and so many formats to watch them in (DVD, Blu-Ray, MPEG, what have you), it can be hard to make a decision when you want to sit back and enjoy a few hours worth of entertainment. Well that’s where the Must-Watch List will help you out. We have sifted through the selections currently available (and trust me, it’s a lot of movies!) to bring you our recommendations for the Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror movies that we believe fans of the genre (or those wanting to sample it) absolutely have to see. This is a “best-of” list for the genre, though we are avoiding ranking them into a Top 100 type list (at least for the time being). These are the movies that stood out, that changed the genre, that changed filmmaking, or that are just darn good! Sure, our entries on the list might be somewhat subjective and there will be movies included that some people (maybe many) will vehemently disagree with. There may even be some notable exclusions that we may have kept off the list because we just do not feel as strongly about them as others do. But rest assured that we have years (and years and years) of experience watching movies in the genre, whether they were good, bad, very bad, or Battlefield Earth. So we have at least a bit of credibility to bring to the table which should help us in making a few decent recommendations.
In the coming weeks, we will be bringing you at least one review per week of the movies we have included on our Must-Watch List. Of course we will start out with some of the bigger names that many are familiar with, but we will also include some that may have fallen off the radar and will eventually work our way to some that may have slipped into the obscure (at least for modern-day audiences). We kick off the series with a review of Blade Runner, one which few will argue deserves a place in the upper echelon of genre movies. Feel free to let us know which movies you think should find their way to the list as well and we will also give you the chance to cast your votes on the movies we’ve included on our list further down the road. In the mean time, enjoy and prepare for a journey through some of the best Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror movies of all time.
