Its always good to see reviews but I do have to say the attitude of some of the commentators on this project really need some readjustments.
Its ok to say that you know better directors and actors that would have made a better job of this project, but you know what they did not step up to the plate and do anything! So the point is mute.
Its ok to acknowledge that the actors are not professional and make comments on their acting skills. Again you know what you do the job and then make your comments. The actors as far as I'm concerned where working with a good script within the boundaries or their ability and experiences and I for one look forward to their growth.
Maybe we don't get to see the cosmoboy because there is a whole lot of stuff to be revealed yet, that's why its a series!
You know with unlimited amount of bullshit that is produced out of television land these days its nice to see something fresh and shaky something that has the potential to grow and breath and to entertain. Maybe would be critics should sit on their hands and shut up and watch listen and observe before launching in on something.
To the cast and crew you are doing good work and I for one support your endevours and will donate to your cause.
Well done

From the same guys who brought us the Lionshare bring us Pioneer One.

Well I have to say I really enjoyed The Lionshare and just finished watching Pioneer One which kept me captivated all the way through.

What brings me to comment though is the line in the above review about paying a few Dollars for each episode. While this sounds like a good idea in theory it has flaws.

Is the show worth $3 per episode? Yes it is. But as a future for the way we get shows no its not. If this were to take off, if we were to suddenly be inundated with 5, 10. 20 shows worth watching it would very quickly become prohibitively expensive to download them all.

But there is something to be said for productions like this one. Where people get to make a show about what they want it to be about and tell the story the way they intend it. Not the way that a committee thinks the public want it to be about. Fox im looking at you *cough* Firefly *cough*

And while donations to make quality shows are also good in theory not they are really only the equivalent of paying for a show. Just prior to production as opposed to post production.

So what does that leave us with?

Fucked if I know thats why I dont do this shit for a living lol.

The whole episode was meh. The writing was cliche ridden and in desperate need of being edited down. The actors were clearly reading their lines and hadn't memorized. Oh, and a cast almost solely made up of white men? Really? The idea is interesting, the execution is a big fail.

I know, in my circle of friends and acquaintances, much better writers and actors than were utilized in this film.

damn!

wish he left it at horrid!

He brought up some great points. I want to see more, I hope it succeeds - and that will bring better film makers into the game with better work.

But in terms of the creative review, there are a lot of directors who could do more with 6000 than these guys did - it was def film school/amateur hour.

You know, it's always funny when a guy like you comes along, and simply because I express a criticism that doesn't sit well with you, you immediately resort to snide personal attacks.

Actually, I've been a contributor to this site for a while, having written a number of reviews of various films, from "Star Trek" to "Paranormal Activity" to "Avatar," as well as some others, including a few TV shows. And usually when I respond to a review by one of the regular contributors here I do go into more detail as to what my thoughts are on the matter, but I simply didn't have the time when I posted that last message here yesterday, so I kept it quick, brief and to the point, because I did download the episode and was very disappointed by what I saw this past weekend when I sat down and watched it. I still have not read more than the first paragraph of the review here, but again, only because I haven't stopped by when enough time was available to me to read what the author of this particular article had said in full detail.

However, as to _my_ opinion -- the writing of this pilot was horrible, and at times the acting even worse. Yes, I know that they're not professionals, but it was still virtually impossible for me to ignore and simply look passed. The episode is also full of talk with no real action, and ultimately it left me feeling very unsatisfied and downright bored. I was also annoyed that I didn't even get to see the Russian who was captured and being held for observation by the time it was over. That was left to the imagination, but it was also one of the main points of the whole damn story, so by the end we should have at least saw who it was they were talking about and what he looked like given that his medical condition was pointed out and the circumstances of his life elaborated on in some detail. We're supposed to care and be curious about this individual, and yet we never even get to see his face. And while that may also have been an issue related to budget, it was a lousy creative choice for the producers to have made in my opinion. There was no "hook" to it all, not even at the end when they had an opportunity to spark some interest by showing this poor beset upon individual. I was left asking myself "And I'm supposed to care about this?" And the answer I came away with was "Well, I don't!" and so I have no choice but to render a verdict of failure as a result.

I went into it open-minded and allowed myself to get my hopes up a bit because I liked the way the project was conceived and executed as an independent project, but I found myself walking away feeling utterly disappointed instead, which is rather unfortunate because I didn't want to feel as though it was a half hour of my life that I wish I could get back. I would rather it was instead something that I would like to see pursued and followed through on, but for me that simply wasn't the case sadly enough.

Is that enough for you?

I thought that the pilot did a great job at holding my attention. I agree, you don't need flashy effects to captivate your audience. You need to be able to tell a good stoy, and tell it well.

For their budget, they did an EXCELLENT job. I am going to contribute $100 in the hope that later releases will captivated me as much as the pilot.

@ StarFury - Do you have any contribution to make to this discussion? Did you watch it? If so, what was "horrid" about it? Are you a sci-fi fan, or just someone who hops on public comments and says "HORRID" without elaborating on why you seem to have a sub-par sci-fi pallet?

Please, feel free to explain. I'd like to know what was so "horrid" about it.
