I just started watching Legend of the Seeker after I found out about it by mistake on Youtube a few days ago.

That right there, is the problem with the show and why it was most likely cancelled.

Legend of the Seeker and Dollhouse are two of my favorite shows. If it wasn't for Netflix though I never would have had a chance to watch them. Dollhouse is a very controversial show and brings up a lot of moral issues with the new technological age. Why is it that when I find a good show that I like it always seems to get cancelled? They need to bring them back. NOW.

How could you not like Season 2? Cara was gold (as she is in the books). The show did not follow the books very closely, however the main gist of the quest was always abided by, which explains why Rahl was killed at the end of season 1. I don't think it took the wind from the show at all, and I personally loved the fact that Cara brought new life to the group and there was a new evil to defeat. That's the whole point, it's called Legend of the Seeker. Meaning it follows the story of Richard and his story as seeker, not 'the quest to defeat darken rahl'. I admit that there were many things the show could improve on, such as those annoying episodes in which they recapped everything that had happened so far without moving the story on at all. Still the show had many redeeming factors and I dearly wish it had been picked up for a third season. :'(

And let's not forget, the original TV series Star Trek was cancelled after two seasons. It aired at 10 pm on Friday nights. Fan outrage brought it back for a third but then they cancelled it again. Now look.

This was one of the few TV shows I watched at all. Maddening, though, was how often they went two or three weeks between airing episodes toward the end. Made it hard to sustain interest. Terry Goodkind's books were interesting because each developed a theme, primarily portrayed as the Wizard's Rules. However, I thought the TV series writers did an even better job with the plot changes they made in deviance from the books.

Johnny Jay,
The 2nd season [of Legend of the Seeker] is weird. I personally think it has some episodes better than the first season and some that are worse. I felt that the season didn't open that strongly but was really impressed by the episodes following episode 2. I think if you begin watching the season again you will see that just when you think you are starting to lose interest it pulls you back in. The last 7 or so episodes before the season finale, and the season finale itself are quite excellent. Give it a shot.

I agree with what mostly everyone has been saying regarding advertising and promotion. I think it would be incredibly stupid for this show not to be continued. There is still so much left to tell. If i was an executive at ABC or SyFy I would completely go full out with advertising and promotion for the 3rd season of this show. I think ABC would be surprised with the the response and renew this series over and over again.

In response to several of the comments above, I do confess that I have not read the books (though hope to get to them at some point), but the typical feedback that I have heard is that the series does not follow them very closely. Apparently, though, Darken Rahl was slain by Richard at the end of the first book which explains why they did that at the end of Season 1 of the series. I still feel like that took some of the wind out of the sails of the show and that the second season seemed like more of a retread than moving forward and that it crammed too much into many of the episodes. Basically, I just did not enjoy it as much during the second season and I assume others may have felt the same way leading to the decline in ratings. I do acknowledge, though, that frequent preemptions definitely does not help any show.

In any case, I did not hate Season 2 and would definitely tune in for a third season which I hope that the fans bring about. We will continue to spread the word at Axiom's Edge and look forward to news about the campaign.

" I haven’t heard of any network showing interest yet." Obviously, you're not following the news that thousands of loyal fans are pumping out. DirecTV and several other networks (including SyFy) have expressed interest but passed for "various reasons". I would assume that's due to the fact that ABC and SyF couldn't come to an agreement on price or something business related.
"Maybe they did that because they weren’t sure they would get a renewal for a second season "
Season 2 was already a go by the point season 1 wrapped.
"I’d say this show made a major misfire by wrapping up its main story arc after its first season and killing off the main antagonist Darken Rahl"
Obviously, you have not read the books. Rahl is not the main antagonist by any means. The Imperial Order is (though some fans will argue that it's the Keeper or someone equally as credible) Still, anyone who has invested more than a quick glance on the internet could tell you that.
"Then they contrived a way for Rahl to return and basically started retreading the ground they had already covered"
Actually, Terry Gookind, author of the Sword of Truth novels on which this show is based, "contrived" this plot device in Stone of Tears and his book was a bestseller.
In addition, the show crammed too much into each episode"
That's how syndication works. Each episode is constructed to be a standalone story within the larger story.
"Chances of Being Saved: The best out of any of this season’s cancelled shows, but still slim."
I trust your odds about as much as I trust your research. I'll let the rest of my post speak to that.

Mr. Joex, before you start looking into becoming a professional critic, please learn to do your research. While some of what you say on this site has merit, this article is outright embarassing.

I started watching Legend of the Seeker last season, and finally started reading the books now. Have you read the books? The series flows like them. There are tons of characters; and although there is a main quest (like in the first book and season, to destroy Darken Rahl) there are many forks in the road. I mean the books are each like 800 pages! Of course the episodes are going to be crowded!

The main problem I have always had with the series is the lack of any advertising. We found it on our local channel by accident ( thankfully on the first episode) but it wasn't always available on the same day or even the same time, Or if a sports event or movie ran over, it would be a half of an episode ( which sucked) with no re showing. I have never seen a commercial for it either. Tribune has proved that it didnt care, which is terrible because this series really has promise. It fills a void in TV land, a void that a medical or cop drama can not fill. We need a show that gives us hope, and makes us laugh and cry, and gives our sons and daughters strong role models. This show provided that and more. For our house alone, it inspired both my husband and children to want to know more about the series and start reading them, while providing them a funny uplifting without preaching weekly series that we can all watch together.

I do hope a network "is crazy enough" to pick up after Tribune mess of things. I would love to see this show on ABC directly.. or SyFy..

But thanks for the honest article, and keeping the flame going.
